New studies show reduced depression with Transcendental Meditation

The Transcendental Meditation technique was effective at reducing symptoms of depression, according to studies conducted at Charles Drew University in Los Angeles and University of Hawaii in Kohala. Both results will be presented April 9th at the 31st Annual Meeting of the Society of Behavioral Medicine in Seattle, Washington. Participants included African Americans and Native Hawaiians, 55 years and older, at risk for cardiovascular disease. Those with clinically significant depression reduced depressive symptoms by 48%.
